Getting Started

The first step in helping you solve your relationship problems is to set up an initial 60-minute in-person consultation for both of you via video teleconferencing (Telehealth). This is an opportunity for us to get acquainted; for you to tell us about the issues are that are bringing you to therapy; what your goals are; and for us to talk to you a bit about how we work so that we can all mutually determine if this feels like a good fit. We find that taking a full 60 minutes at the outset to discuss these issues is the best investment for everyone. It gives us an opportunity to get a good grasp on your problems before you invest in this process. The initial consultation is billed at our normal hourly rate.

If we decide to move forward with therapy, we will then set up your first couples therapy appointment.

Rates and Payment Methods

Payment is due at the time of service. You may pay using any of the following credit cards: Visa, MasterCard, American Express, JCB, Discover, and Diners Club.

Insurance

We Are an Out-of-Network Provider

As an out-of-network provider, we do not accept your insurance plan. However, we are happy to provide you with a statement of payment on a quarterly basis for you to submit to your insurance company. Many insurance companies provide reimbursement for services rendered by out-of-network providers. Check with your insurance company prior to making an appointment with us to determine if they reimburse for services. Below are helpful questions to ask when you call your insurance provider.

Questions to Ask Your Insurer to Determine Reimbursement Eligibility:

Do I have out-of-network benefits to see a licensed therapist? If yes, what percentage of the cost of treatment do you cover?

How many sessions are covered per year?

Do I have a deductible and has it been met?

For couples therapy: Do you reimburse for CPT Code 90847 (Family Therapy with the Patient Present)?

What forms do I need to submit to qualify for reimbursement?

How Our Practice Works

Our practice is Telehealth.

Therapy requires a very active effort on your part. Commitment to the process helps get you through challenging times.

We invite you to discuss any concerns and questions regarding your therapy and feelings about your therapist with us for the duration of your treatment. We will ask for your feedback and views on your therapy, and its progress and other aspects of the therapy and will expect you to respond openly and honestly.

Session Length and Frequency

The first couples therapy session must be scheduled for three hours. The longer session length allows us to get a very good idea of every aspect of your relationship. By the end of the first session, we will have an understanding of exactly why you are experiencing problems as a couple and a clear treatment plan for how the therapy is going to help you moving forward.

At that time, we will also be able to make a recommendation regarding session frequency as well as how long we think the course of therapy may likely take, based on my initial assessment of your problems and goals. Most couples attend therapy anywhere between one and four times per month.

Subsequent couples therapy sessions (if needed) are usually two hours in length.

Both partners are required to attend all couples therapy sessions.

In order to gain maximum benefit, please be on time.

Couples Intensives

Therapy intensives for relationship problems can be very useful in certain cases but should not be viewed as a replacement for ongoing couples therapy. When a couple intensive is sought, a variety of scheduling options are possible. For instance, three to four consecutive days with three to four hours of therapy per day. Please call if you are interested in a couples therapy weekend intensive.

If you are coming from out-of-town, we will ensure that we make an appropriate referral for a marriage and family therapist in your home town so that you have continuity of care after the intensive.
